Taking the time to talk and get to know the learner.

Standard

I offer cross-country skiing twice a week at the second nutrition break.  We get to ski for the forty minutes on the trails at our school.  It is often a real scramble to get out there…but when I’m out there with my skiers in the bush, it is so worth it! Last Thursday was a scramble to get out there. A new student at our school was skiing ahead of me. As she skied she talked all about her family, her hopes and aspirations for her future and why she loved our school! I was so happy I took the time to be there.  I got to learn a lot about this student that I may not have had the opportunity to in the classroom. I was reminded that the highest impact we can have on our students is taking the time to talk with them and connect with them. Image It was a rich experience!
